Slip Covers

Slip covers can be used on virtually any kind of furniture – sofas, occasional chairs, dining room chairs, ottomans, benches and headboards – to change the look of an older piece, hide an unfortunate mistake (we’ve all made them!), match a new wall colour or the changing season.

I can help you narrow down the choices in fabric design and colour, and navigate the dizzying array of slipcover styles now available, such as piped or not piped, inverted pleats with or without contrast, short or long skirts – the list goes on.

Upholstry

Reupholstering antique or heirloom pieces has always been very popular and is a great way to keep something you love looking wonderful. I work with local craftspeople to make sure your antiques get specialized attention to retain both their beauty and value.

But the growing trend today is to recover even “regular” or simply out-of-date pieces as well, rather than relegating them to the basement or tossing them in the landfill. A good environmental option, it’s also less expensive than buying new – and you’ll never see what you have anywhere else!

Your recovered furniture will always be one-of-a-kind.

The right drapery style in the right fabric, with the right hardware, can transform a room: from cold to warm, from dull to sophisticated, from crowded to sleek.

I can help you choose the style and fabric that will best suit your windows and the mood you are trying to create. For example, soft side panels in a velvet or linen to create an elegant effect in a living room, or a simple roman shade for a more relaxed atmosphere in a family room or den.

Drapery can also be used to help insulate or soundproof a room, or to blackout the morning sun.

Blinds are a practical solution in many windows: to block a poor view, close out the blazing sun, or insulate against a cold north wind.

But just because blinds are practical doesn’t mean they can’t be attractive too!

I work with Hunter Douglas the industry-leading supplier who produces many different blind options – including hardwood blinds, honeycomb shades, fabric shades, roller blinds and silhouettes – that will add style to any space. As well custom wood shutter systems from top Canadian Manufacturers.

Drapery hardware has come a long way over the past few years. It is now both extremely functional – no more fighting with a sticky cord – and highly decorative. A European-style track system embedded in a ceiling makes for contemporary look, while a wrought iron rod with a fancy finial adds old-world charm. Finishes range from modern polished nickel, to hand-rubbed bronze and everything in between. You can even have your track system custom-painted to match your wall or fabric colour.

A simple treatment which showcases prints or solids equally and creates a relaxed look when used in a Den or Family Room. Using a silk fabric amps up the treatment to a more elegant finish.

Hi Paula: Truly, it was my pleasure to work with you. You were so much help. I would never have been able to do this redecorating with so little stress. You gave me direction and confidence and I love the result.
